Why we should be using a good water filter

Have you ever wondered what is in your tap water?

My personal experience with the Berkey water Filter. Why we need to filter our water and not drink from the tap! The Berkey is affordable and easy to set up and use. Enjoy! When I started working in functional medicine as a Physician Assistant I learned very quickly that our water is not as clean as we may think it is. Since we need to be drinking half of our body weight in ounces of water daily for our body to perform well and eliminate toxins then we should probably be drinking water that does not have added stuff in it we don’t really need. I also noticed that my water smells like chlorine. Not cool! I know that there are some regulations when it comes to the water facilities but the guidelines on what is considered safe is kind of scary. Some common contaminants are bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, pesticides, feces, petroleum, chlorine, arsenic and more. Not so good for us! Recently there was an issue in Michigan where there were high levels of lead in the water. All of these things we are exposed to on a daily basis are truly affecting our health and leading to illness. Water can be a simple thing to control and to improve very quickly and is affordable. Now I am NOT talking about buying plastic water bottles. The water in those bottles may not be any better than the water in the tap plus then you are getting the plastic exposure which is another area of concern. Plus they are just creating more trash. I recommend investing in a good reusable water bottle like a yeti, hydroflask or klean kanteen. There are many, but do not get a nalgene. Even if they say BPA free they are still using some form of it. Make sure it is glass or stainless steel. Then look for a good water purifier or filter to clean up your water and use it for drinking and cooking. In the video above I discuss the Berkey water filter that I bought a couple of years ago. I have two sizes and I also have a shower head filter. I like this option because it was affordable, it is portable, and its easy to assemble, clean and replace the filters. The water tastes incredibly clean to where it almost has a sweetness to it.

If you want to read a water report on your water go here and enter your zipcode. It is kind of eye opening

Here are some links to what I have that you can get on amazon for a good price. In addition I get the extra flouride filters since flouride competes with iodine for thyroid health, and they also remove 95% of arsenic from the water.

Now there are some other options like a whole house filter which would be amazing or a reverse osmosis filter but I found the berkey was a good fit for me.
